Educational philosphy

I BELIEVE THAT STUDENTS

  1. Have the right to learn through relevant, engaging, challenging, and globally significant activities and assignments.
  2. Should be guided to become empathetic, globally minded, lifelong learners with a positive attitude and goals to make a difference in the world around them.
  3. Will benefit greatly by not simply learning the curriculum content, but by having a firm understanding of why they are learning it and how to use it in their lives.
  4. Should always be subject to thoughtful, supportive, and detailed feedback from both their teacher and other students in order to reflect upon their own learning and improve their future work.
  5. Should be subject to an arena for safe and empathic dialogue, which shows them that it is OK to embrace differences with those around them.

I BELIEVE THAT TEACHERS

  1. Should guide students throughout the learning process and allow them to take responsibility for their own learning through inquiry.
  2. Should build learning goals and criteria with their students.
  3. Need to become familiar with the learning styles and differences within a classroom in order to tailor lessons that meet all student needs and help each student to become aware of how they learn best.
  4. Should be lifelong learners in order to stay current and perpetually hone their skills as educators.
  5. Must be reflective practitioners, consider criticisms, be adaptive, know when to laugh, and act upon problems and dilemmas with the most effective strategies.

I BELIEVE THAT SCHOOLS

  1. Should provide a safe and comforting learning environment where students can focus on their goals, make social connections, and develop a positive attitude toward education.
  2. Are obligated to provide emerging technologies and safe online environments and tools that are engaging, cooperative, relevant, and authentic.
  3. Must provide extracurricular activities that promote a sense of self, build confidence, develop leadership roles and help to teach global awareness.
  4. Must provide a sense of community for faculty, parents, and students where positive and ongoing communication is at the heart of every learning experience.
  5. Need to develop curriculum, clubs, and an environment that addresses diversities and helps to create a globally-minded student population.
